What are the most important FASTag rules you should be aware of while passing your vehicle through NHAI Toll Plaza?

When you pass through any NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) Toll Plaza, you should know the below stated rules related to FASTag:

1) If the FASTag scanner is not working at the NHAI Toll Plaza or is unable to read your FASTag then the person working at the Toll Plaza cannot ask you to pay the Toll charges in cash. According to the Government rules if you have money in your FASTag account but if the FASTag scanner at the Toll Plaza is not working then you do not have to pay the Toll charges.

2) As per NHAI guidelines, if any vehicle waits for more than 10 seconds for FASTag scanning even at peak hours, then the vehicle driver can cross the Toll Plaza without paying any Toll charges.

3) In order to ensure seamless flow of traffic, NHAI has implemented “100 metres queue rule at every Toll Plaza”. If there is a queue of waiting vehicles of more than 100 metres due to some reason, the vehicles will be allowed to pass without paying Toll charges till the queue comes within 100 metres from the Toll Plaza. For this purpose, a yellow line at a distance of 100 metres from the Toll Plaza is marked in each Toll Lane.

4) Kindly install FASTag on your vehicle and if it is already installed on your vehicle then always keep it recharged. If you do not have FASTag installed on your vehicle then you will have to pay double the amount of Toll charges in cash.
